The United States Public Interest Commission for the Disclosure of the United States recently submitted a report to the President proposing a proposal to improve the system for declassifying the federal government’s files. The report states: “Over 1 million pages of documents have been decrypted since fiscal 1995. However, a significant portion of these documents have not yet been made available to the public and many more are still unclassified and decrypted. And, as the number of files and file formats grows, the task becomes more difficult, and we suggest finding a way to identify documents of historic significance, which is important for providing timely information to the public. ”
