This article describes the design, manufacture, and testing of several typical lightweight satellite components using graphite-epoxy and graphite-epoxy honeycomb composites with the goal of accumulating the design and manufacturing information needed to apply composite materials to more complex The space structure. Design studies have shown that the use of composites in the primary and secondary structures of satellites can save 15-20% of the weight. Manufacturing and gluing processes, including the use of expansion tools, have been developed to save significant costs in terms of weight and labor, tools and cure time.
