The research progress on the Event-related potentials (ERP) responses to auditory novelty events in human brain is reviewed. Introduced the experimental design of novelty response and the novelty response to a series of problems in ERP. The relationship between mismatch negative wave potential (MMN), which reflects deviant detection, and the novelty response is also discussed. Familiarity and attention affect both the brain’s novel ERP response. Studies have shown that with the strengthening of familiarity, in the precordial area showed a significant reduction in the signal, and no significant change in the posterior region. Note that the role of attention to help strengthen the signal, the corresponding parts of the brain to produce activation. This article further discusses the functional significance of ERP response, including the brain’s evaluation of novelty events.
