扼杀精英是古代雅典民主的一个重要的特征。雅典民主政治中的平均主义原则极大地抑制了精英能力的发挥,也造成了行政效率的低下。民众对精英的冷漠、嫉妒,以及少数人对民众的煽动,使许多精英遭到排挤和扼杀。民主政治中无休止的派系斗争则是精英遭到扼杀的深层原因。
Killing the elite is an important feature of ancient Athens democracy. The principle of egalitarianism in Athenian democracy greatly inhibits the ability of the elite to play and also leads to the inefficiency of administration. Indifference to the elites, jealousy and incitement by the minority to the public caused many elites to be squeezed and strangled. Endless sectarian struggles in democratic politics are the underlying causes of stifling elites.
