The Third International Symposium on Chinese Scholars and the 21st Century Shanghai Development, organized by Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association, Shanghai European Studies Association, Shanghai Economic Commission and Shanghai Overseas Exchange Association, was held from July 25 to July 27, 2002 Shanghai Jin Jiang Hotel opened. The theme of this symposium is “Cooperation and Development in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta.” More than 150 experts and scholars from the United States, France, Japan and Beijing, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai attended the conference. Mayor of Shanghai and Honorary Director of Organizing Committee of the Seminar Chen Liangyu introduced at the opening ceremony a new round of Shanghai’s overall urban development plan and the recent cooperation and exchange between the two provinces and one city in the Yangtze River Delta.
