Thermal sprayed aluminum on steel is a proven technology that is viable in the marine environment. This thermal spray coating system is applied with a sealer on the coating, which will extend the useful life of the coating and provide the product with a color. This thermal spray system protects the steel by both galvanic isolation and electrochemistry. Thanks to this double protection, the steel can be preserved even after the coating is damaged. However, until recently, its widespread application was limited by the cost of primary coating. Arc spraying technology has reduced the cost of thermally sprayed aluminum coatings below paint. Industrial shipbuilders can use this technology to enhance their position in the marine industry.
