我上大学的第一周,一天去图书馆三层见个人并读书。进入图书馆后,我来到电梯前,揿下按钮。一会儿门开了,我坐着轮椅进了电梯,电梯门在我身后关上。我本指望按钮在我前面的下方,却突然发现它们在我身后,而且高得够不着。我陷在电梯里,孤独无助。后来有人从四层上了电梯。我已等了15分钟。许多地方残疾人都无法去,受此之苦的不只我一个人。我所就读的肯塔基大学目前有12幢大楼,坐轮椅的学生是无法进入的。像图书馆那样的许多建筑物虽进得去,但里面的电梯残疾学生却不能操作。这些建筑物残疾学生进不去造成了种种不必要的困难。比如一位残疾学生要见一位行政人员,必须约好在一个出入方便
During my first week of college, I went to the library on the third floor to meet individuals and read books. After entering the library, I came to the elevator and pressed the button. When the door opened, I entered the elevator with a wheelchair and the elevator door closed behind me. I had hoped that the buttons were just below me, but suddenly I found them behind me and I couldn’t reach them. I was stuck in the elevator and alone and helpless. Someone later got on the elevator from the fourth floor. I have waited 15 minutes. In many places, people with disabilities cannot go. It is not just me who suffers. The University of Kentucky where I studied currently has 12 buildings and is inaccessible to students in wheelchairs. Although many buildings like the library can enter, but the elevator disabled students inside can not operate. The students with disabilities in these buildings can’t go through all sorts of unnecessary difficulties. For example, if a disabled student wants to meet with an administrative officer, he or she must have an appointment to facilitate access.
