The Han style is a pan-Chinese worship popular in the cultural life of Western society during the 17th and 18th centuries and exerts a profound influence on the development of American culture. The early upper class in the United States was proud of consuming and possessing Chinese goods, and perceived China through the cultural images of the goods presented, which in turn influenced the oriental imagination and subject choice of American literary creation. On the other hand, Chinese thought books indirectly influenced the early leaders of the United States through the French agronomists and influenced important figures in the history of American thought in Emerson, Thoreau and Pound.
