Bus is an important one-dimensional interconnection network in communication and multiprocessor systems. However, the contention on the shared bus represents a strong limitation on the number of applicable subsystems. This paper presents a traffic estimate model for a bus system design. A probabilistic approach is proposed to predict the average bus bandwidth. Assume that the flow of packets from a module obeys a Poisson process, we determine the distribution of the bus flow data rate, thus estimating the average bus bandwidth. The experiment demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach.
