唐朝是我国封建社会鼎盛期之一，一个朝代的兴盛与其民主治国分不开。唐高祖李渊和唐太宗李世民可算得上是中国封建社会的开明君主。唐朝前期封建社会经济的迅速发展和封建政治的清明，与李渊父子在唐朝前期为稳定社会采取的一些施政有关。据司马光《资治通鉴·唐纪·八》载，
The Tang Dynasty was one of the heyday of the feudal society in our country. The prosperity of one dynasty can not be separated from its democracy and governance. Tang emperor Li Yuan and Taizong Li Shimin can be regarded as enlightened monarchs in China’s feudal society. The rapid development of the feudal society and economy in the early Tang Dynasty and the clear-cut feudal politics were related to some policies adopted by Li Yuan and his father in stabilizing society in the early Tang Dynasty. According to Sima Guang “Zi Tong Tong Ji eight eight” contains,
