本区自然生态系统属于亚热带常绿季雨林赤红壤;经人为破坏,目前处于演变系列发育阶段中的亚热带草坡(包括稀树草坡)侵蚀赤红壤阶段,一部分已沦为寸草不生的光板地强度侵蚀赤红壤,后经兴修梯田、水平阶、植树造林,逐步建立起人工森林土壤生态系统。土壤肥力提高,蓄水保土,无土壤侵蚀,微生物活性增强,改善了生态环境。目前本区有6种生态系统类型;试验表明人工森林生态系统类型动物增加近10倍,土壤微生物活性增强20倍,物质能量转化提高;土壤有机质含量也增加近10倍,土壤pH和肥力都有提高,并且改善了小区气候。
