我国革命文艺运动领导人之一的夏衍,于1937年春写成的大型三幕话剧《上海屋檐下》,是话剧史上的一部重要著作。剧作家按照当时正在蓬勃兴起的抗日斗争的需要提炼作品的主题,真实地反映了全国抗战前夕的大上海社会生活面貌,形象地表现了中国普通劳动大众对国民党政府抗战举旗不定的不满情绪,并以独特的舞台艺术形式,使之成为我国抗战戏剧的嚆矢与第一流作品。这个戏于抗日战争期间在上海、武汉、重庆、成都等地广泛上演;
