1999年11月15日,中美就中国加入世界贸易组织问题达成双边协议,从而为中国加入世贸组织扫清了最大障碍。目前,我国政府正抓紧时间与世贸组织其他有关成员进行谈判,以期尽早加入这个组织。与此同时,台湾当局也加快了申请加入世贸组织的步伐。如果不出意外,两岸很可能在今年先后“入世”。那么,两岸为何要积极争取“入世”?“入世”对两岸经济的发展特别是对两岸间的经贸往来将有何影响?针对这些问题,笔者试做以下分析。
On November 15, 1999, China and the United States reached a bilateral agreement on China’s accession to the World Trade Organization, thereby clearing the biggest obstacle for China’s accession to the WTO. At present, our government is stepping up its time to negotiate with other relevant WTO members with a view to joining this organization as soon as possible. In the meantime, the Taiwan authorities have also accelerated the pace of applying for membership in the WTO. If nothing else happens, the two sides of the strait are likely to “join the WTO” this year. Why then should the two sides of the strait actively seek “accession to the WTO?” What will the impact of the “accession to the WTO” have on the economic development between the two sides of the Strait, especially on the economic and trade exchanges between the two sides of the strait? In response to these questions, the author tries to make the following analysis.
