Magnesium is the fourth most common cation in human body after sodium, potassium and calcium, ranking second in the intracellular cation concentration. Adult body contains about 25 grams of magnesium (1000 millimolar), of which 50 to 60% are in the bone. Normal serum magnesium content is 1.6 ~ 2.1 milliequivalents / liter, of which about 1/4 ~ 1/3 is protein-bound. Americans generally dietary magnesium in about 500 mg (20 mmol), many are from chlorophyll. Adults are estimated to need a dietary intake of 0.15 millimoles (3.5 to 4.5 milligrams) of magnesium per kilogram per day to maintain a well-balanced balance. Children need magnesium more. Active absorption of magnesium in the small intestine, 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol
