To assess the relationship between serum lipid levels and shift work, the authors conducted a cross-sectional survey of two plants in North France (nuclear and chemical plants). A total of 109 shift workers were selected for all shift workers and nuclear plants in the chemical plant. Twenty-five people were excluded from the study or were unable to attend due to illness, and 11 refused to participate. In contrast, 109 of the regular white-collar workers, whose age, education level, place of birth and degree of occupational physical activity were comparable to the number of shift workers, were excluded. Ten people refused to participate because 26 were excluded or unable to attend because of illness.
