In 2008, 310,000 people were diagnosed with cancer in the UK, of whom 156,000 died of cancer, accounting for 27% of all causes of death. Breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer and prostate cancer are the most common, accounting for 54% of all cancers. Among them, the most common cancer in men is prostate cancer, and the most common cancer in women is breast cancer. Historically, the UK has lagged behind many other European countries and the United States in cancer control. To change this situation, the British government has developed and implemented a series of cancer service improvement programs. Thanks to the country’s efforts in cancer treatment and prevention, a great improvement has been made in the prevention and control of cancer in the United Kingdom.
