Analyst magazine describes a method for the determination of Mn ~ II based on the photoactivated oxidation of sulphite using the special photosensitizer Rose Bengal. In the photoactivated acetylacetonation reaction, the reactivity of Mn ~ Ⅱ is 10 times higher than that of the chemically activated system. The determination of Mn ~ Ⅱ was not disturbed by a large amount of excess Co ~ Ⅱ, Cu ~ Ⅱ, Ni ~ Ⅱ, Cr ~ Ⅱ, Cd ~ Ⅱ or Fe ~ Ⅲ.
