日本的公众移动通信包括船舶通信、列车公众电话、航空无线电话、无线呼叫和汽车电话五个部份。 1.船舶通信 (1)船舶电话(国内通信) 早在1953年东京湾和大阪湾就开放了港湾电话,1958年在濑户内海岸开始试行海岸电话,次年开始服务,这种装设在船舶上的船舶电话能够与全国的电话用户间及船舶电话相互间通话。现在全国在沿海岸设有118个海岸局。 1964年全国主要海域服务区域扩大以来(1981年覆盖冲绳先岛群岛周围,伊豆七岛周围及全国的海岸大部分),使用船舶电话显著增加,到1982年末约有11900户。

There are now 118 Coastal Bureaus across the country. Since the expansion of the service area of major national seas in 1964 (covering the islands around the islands of Okinawa, the coast of the island of Izu and the rest of the country in 1981) in 1981, the number of vessels using ships increased significantly, reaching about 11 900 by the end of 1982.
