邓小平提出了许多关于干部监督的思想。江泽民继承了邓小平干部监督的思想,并从加强干部监督的意义,加强制度建设,建立结构合理、配置科学、程序严密、制约有效的权力运行机制,坚持和健全民主集中制,强化领导班子内部的监督,完善重大事项和重要干部任免的决定程序等方面作了深入的阐述,进一步发展了邓小平关于干部监督的理论。
