In today’s era of rapid development of information technology in education, language partners learn foreign languages from the traditional face-to-face remote: partners both use the Internet for written and oral communication. Electronic partner language learning in recent years more and more attracted foreign language teachers and researchers attention. E-partner learning and research are mostly conducted between European languages. In recent years there have been some e-mate studies involving Chinese. This article describes the six-week Chinese-English e-mate language learning project conducted by the Open University of Hong Kong, the Department of Distance Junior Chinese and Beijing Jiaotong University Distance Education Institute. This article focuses on the pre-preparation of electronic partner language learning programs and the coordinating role of the two institutions. The authors conducted a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the collected data. The analysis shows that preparation of the project and cooperation and coordination between the two parties play a crucial role in the success of electronic partner language learning.
