Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe is best known as the first realist novel. Robinson’s rule over the desert island is precisely the process by which the colonialists colonized. His overseas adventure symbolizes the imperialist expansion of overseas colonies. Therefore, “Robinson Crusoe” is a true portrayal of the expansion and plunder of early British settlers. This article tries to interpret “Robinson Crusoe” from the perspective of post-colonialism and analyze the colonial discourse.
