With the opening up of China’s economy, China has started to introduce foreign-funded financial institutions since 1979. As of December 31, 1994, a total of 393 financial institutions in 33 countries and regions set up 393 representative offices in China. Financial institutions in 14 countries and regions set up 118 business offices in China, including 99 branches of foreign banks Five foreign-funded banks, five Sino-foreign joint-venture banks, five Sino-foreign joint ventures and wholly foreign-owned finance companies and four foreign-funded insurance companies.
