四十年代严酷的战争和政治条件对中国文学作出了诸多规定。本文试图通过四十年代“国统区”作家对这时代要求的回应，描述四十年代作家自觉追随时代精神的思想轨迹，并探讨了作家对历史和人生个性表达的可能性。从对历史自我的要求到个性表达的犹疑，以至其后的道德理想态度，四十年代文学主题之衔变，对近代中国各种形态的民族主义或民粹主义思想与民主主义思想之间经久不衰的消蚀或修正作用的一种说明。
The harsh wars and political conditions of the 1940s made many provisions on Chinese literature.
