The “Lenin Sports Complex” built in Leningrad with a steel membrane cantilevered roof structure and the “Olympic Sports Complex” in Moscow, fully demonstrated these building structures during and after the 1980 Olympic Games. With high efficiency and reliability, it won the Soviet National Award for Science and Technology. The steel membrane suspension shell roof is based on the principle of new structural treatment. This has no precedent in the Soviet Union and abroad. For this reason, the principle of this structure has obtained the invention-creation certificate. In designing these sports complexes, a variety of structural options have been considered during the experimental research phase, including the requirements for the layout of their buildings, such as rod structures, suspension structures, and membranes.
