October 13 this year is the 21st International Day for Disaster Reduction. The theme of this year’s International Day for Disaster Reduction is “Building resilient cities: Let’s get ready.” Natural disasters such as earthquakes, storms, tsunamis, floods, droughts, volcanic eruptions and forest fires pose a tremendous risk to humanity every year, resulting in heavy casualties and property losses. In particular, as the process of urbanization continues to accelerate and resources, wealth and population become more concentrated, the natural threat and impact on cities will continue to grow. Therefore, while building more sustainable towns and cities, mankind should learn how to deal with it and carry out self-protection.
