Modernization and maintenance of a dam often require emptying the reservoir, a process that can cause mud bank instabilities and environmental disturbances. In order to address the problem of mud bank collapse characterization, a study is conducted in partnership with the Laboratoire National d’Hydraulique (LNH), a subsidiary of Electricite de France (EDF). This paper presents a geotechnical modeling of submerged and emergent mud bank stability and a comparison of the model results with the measurements carried out throughout the whole reservoir.
