上世纪20年代末,随着井冈山根据地的建立和“扩红”运动的展开,中国工农红军队伍迅速扩大,从作战和管理等方面,服装统一的必要性也日益凸显。1929年3月长汀长岭寨一战后,红四军前委为提振士气,决定赶制4000套正规的红军军装,从而使红军首次在一个军的范围内有了统一的服装。
