在一个外国版画展览会的开幕式上,我见到一位高个子的四川人,他沉着冷静,说起话来,思路敏捷,逻辑严谨。经友人介绍,他就是著名版画家、美术理论家王琦。这是我在二十几年前第一次认识王琦先生的印象。我作为一个版画的自学者,一直把他当成我的老师之一。在二十多个春秋里,我曾多次向他请教过木刻的技术,探讨有关版画艺术的理论问题,研究中外版画家的生平及创作生活,同时也有机会不断地观摩、学习他在各个时期的木刻作品,我渐渐地了解了他的为人和他的艺术。
At the opening ceremony of a foreign print exhibition, I met a tall Sichuanese who was calm, talkative, quick-witted and logical. Introduced by friends, he is a famous printmaker, art theorist Wang Qi. This is my first impression of Mr. Wang Qi twenty years ago. As a self-taught printmaking artist, I have always regarded him as one of my teachers.
