Foreword The application and development of nuclear technology are the hallmarks of social progress in science and technology. In agriculture, according to the incomplete statistics of the relevant United Nations departments in 1985, more than 600 crops and plant varieties were induced by radiation mutagenesis. Japanese scholars reported that the slow mutagenicity of living animals greatly enhanced the mutagenic effects. The United States Brookhaven National Radiation Experiment Center and Japan National Radiation Breeding Farm and other facilities have been equipped for different purposes of research and application.
