7月中下旬,素以干旱、荒漠著称的新疆天山山脉,暴发了千年一遇的大洪水。 雨水、雪水、冰水,汇成激流,夹带着泥沙、砾石、滚滚而下。乌拉斯河暴涨了。阿拉沟河暴涨了。洪峰汹涌,横冲直撞。穿越天山腹地,连接南疆北疆的钢铁大动脉——南疆铁路,受到毁灭性的冲击和破坏。路基冲毁,桥梁倒塌,扭曲的钢轨不是高悬空中,就是跌落谷底。476公里铁道,有310公里受害,毁灭地段100米以上的就有44处。最严重之处,30米高的路基,竟有430米被洪水扫得荡然无存。真是千疮百孔,支离破碎。 这是中国铁路有史以来,罕见的一次灾害。
