过去孙健初、王鸿桢等人认为吕梁山地区汉高山剖面,是由五台系片麻岩、滤沱系及震旦系的地层所组成,构造简单,三者之间以两个大的沉积角度不整合的关系相接触,因此认为在本区有两个大的构造运动,即在太古代与元古代之间,有一黑疙瘩岭运动;在元古代与震旦纪之间有一吕梁运动存在。并且地层顺序是正常的,由东到西为由老到新依次出露,并建立了吕梁山地区的前寒武系的地层顺序。如下表:
