1982年Riley等从腹泄人群的病原菌分离出产生Vero毒素大肠杆菌O_(157)。致病性大肠杆菌的分类致人类腹泄的致病性大肠杆菌有以下4类。(1)肠道致病性大肠杆菌(EPEC):引起类似沙门菌属的急性胃肠炎。(2)组织侵袭性大肠杆菌(EIEC);呈现发热、腹痛、粘液血便等菌痢样症状。(3)毒素性大肠杆菌(ETBC);通过类霍乱毒素引起腹泄。(4)肠道出血性大肠杆菌(EHEC):大肠杆菌O157:H7产生的Vero毒素(VT,类志贺毒素)有使Vero细胞坏死的作用,现已搞清O26、O111、O113、O121、O128、O145亦产生此毒素。VT有VT_1、VT_2,VT_3和痢疾
