Shi Lu, a twentieth century innovator in the field of Chinese calligraphy and painting, was originally named Feng Yuheng. He was born in Renshou County, Sichuan Province in 1919 and studied Chinese painting since childhood. He then joined the anti-Japanese national salvation movement and engaged in the creation of prints. Upon his arrival in Yenan, he was renamed Shi Lu to show respect and adoration of artist Shi Tao and “leftist” writer Lu Xun in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
