艺术家总是带着苦恼在依恋“过去”和摆脱“过去”的双向矛盾中做出选择,选择的结果将关系到艺术作品的真正价值和艺术家本人在艺术史进程中的地位。这个选择过程,在传统的中国艺术史中称为“变法”。所谓“变法”就是艺术家在自我意识觉醒的前提下,对自己的“过去”进行否定选择;只有经过一次次痛苦的选择,艺术家本人才能够不断地超越自身的局限。我想,周国桢深知这种为摆脱“固有”而进行新选择的重要性,因此在他整个创作过程中,不断地出现过否定自己的过程。每一次否定过程使得周国桢的作品以一种新的面貌呈现。可以设
