巴斯克语是比利牛斯山脉法国、西班牙交界地区的地方语言。在这一包括四个西班牙省和三个法国省的地区，总共有七十万人讲巴斯克语，其中八万人是法国公民。巴斯克语有着独特的语言结构。由于巴斯克语言协会多年的不懈努力，该语言规范化程度越来越高。目前法国的一些公立和私立学校开设有巴语课，一些大学还承担起培养巴语教师的任务，但在新闻媒介，司法及行政领域，巴斯克语的应用几近空白，这或许与法国政府忽视地方语的态度不无关系——它至今仍未签署欧洲议会关于少数民族语言的欧洲宪章。
Basque language is the local language of the Pyrenees at the border of France and Spain. In this area, which includes four Spanish provinces and three French provinces, a total of 700,000 people speak Basque, of whom 80,000 are French citizens. Basque has a unique language structure. Due to years of unrelenting efforts by the Basque Language Association, the language is becoming more and more standardized. At present, there are some French public and private schools that have Bahasa Malaysia classes open. Some universities also undertake the task of cultivating Ba-speaking teachers. However, the application of Basque language in the media, judicial and administrative fields is almost empty. This may be related to the French government Ignoring the local language attitude is not unrelated - it has not yet signed the European Parliament’s European Charter on minority languages.
