文学作品数量并不像春雨、秋雨作品那么多,但丰富了古代文学四季题材的内容,开拓了古代文学的表现领域。古代文学作品对夏雨的描写主多着笔于农业、民生和季节景观特色,赞美夏雨惠及农业、描述旱天全民求雨、雨后的生机、雨后的清凉等,体现出季风气候影响之下雨水对我国古代农业社会的重要性,反映出农耕社会人们对雨水的深厚情感,体现出人们对夏雨的独特感受,展示出夏季所特有的季节美感。
