一、第一次见到闻名已久的前辈吴老的年龄是很容易记的,即和电子同一年诞生——1897年.至于我,却比吴老足足小了三十岁.在科学工作上,十年的差别就是新的一代.三十年就是三代人的差别.我的老师,如余瑞璜教授,王竹溪教授,钱三强教授,彭桓武教授,都是吴老的及门弟子.我在清华园学习的时候,吴老已去了中央大学、交通大学.吴老的著名的讲授——《近代物理》,就没有能赶上.所以,做为“隔传”弟子的后学者,实在是离吴老太远了！然而,吴老以其特有的对后辈的热忱,使我仍有机会亲聆吴老的教导.

When I was studying in Tsinghua University, Wu Lao went to the Central University and Jiaotong University and Wu Lao’s famous lecture, “Modern Physics,” failed to catch up. Therefore, as a post-scholar , It is really far from Wu Lao! However, Wu Lao’s unique enthusiasm for the younger generation made me still have the chance to listen to Wu’s teachings.
