扎西达娃是“西藏新小说”创作群体中的领军人物,同时也是一位极富创作特色的藏族作家。他的作品大都充溢着神秘的魔幻色彩,因而被称为“西藏的魔幻现实主义”作家。但透过魔幻的外表,我们能够感受到作者对历史与人生深刻的洞悉与思考。在扎西达娃创作于20世纪80年代前期的作品中,宏大的历史叙事常常是他极力表现的主要内容,但从80年代中期以后,扎西达娃作品中的这种历史与个人的同构性叙事策略发生了转变,他开始将笔触深入到个体在历史过程中独特的生命体验与存在意识。在这一时期的小说中,历史虽然仍然是扎西达娃构建个体生命存在的一个重要维度,但在表现与反思历史的同时,他更关注的是个体生命在历史体验中的独特感受,个人成为了交融着历史体验与历史记忆的生命个体。
