浙西南部山区人杰地灵,保存有众多古村落,历史悠久,由于历史的和地理的原因,浙西南部山区青田古村落形成了华侨文化、石雕文化和田鱼文化等特色文化,受其影响,现在保存完好的古村落建筑在形态上也都具有中原与瓯越、闽越的融合以及中西合璧等特点,依山水而建,顺乎自然的建筑风格,又体现出古代天人合一的观念。
