Poplar growth is very sensitive to soil moisture conditions. Although there are obvious differences among different cultivars or clones, the change of annual ring width is mainly determined by soil moisture supply conditions. In areas where irrigation is conditional, people are not only concerned about the economic benefits of irrigation and timber growth, but also the relationship between irrigation and the quality of trees. In other words, will the quality of wood decline due to excessive irrigation? What is the decline? This is obviously an important issue that scientists and technologists should answer. Unfortunately, there are many reports on the effect of irrigation on the growth of trees in many literatures at home and abroad. However, few studies have been done on the effect of irrigation on the properties of wood, and few have been reported in China.
