为解决牵引电动机在大雪时的工作可靠性问题,正在探索一种新的机车设计。加拿大国家铁路和Bombardier公司参与了这项课题。新的有过冬设施的机车主要是加拿大国家铁路运用部牵引动力副主任W.L.Draper的构思。由于潮湿而造成牵引电动机故障使得在冬季随时都有250台之多的机车不能使用,而相比来说在夏季约为50台。简单地说,解决的办法是装设从位于机车前端的中心通风机壳体至每台电动机的风道。
In order to solve the reliability problem of traction motor when heavy snowfall, a new locomotive design is being explored. Canadian National Railways and Bombardier participated in the project. The new locomotive with winter facilities is mainly conceived by W.L. Draper, Deputy Director of Traction Power, National Rail Utilization Canada. Traction motor failure due to wetness makes it impossible to use as many as 250 locomotives at any time in winter, compared to about 50 in summer. In simple terms, the solution is to mount the air duct from the central fan housing located at the front of the locomotive to each motor.
