The first national barley symposium was approved by the Chinese Crop Institute on September 11, 1985 in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province. It lasted for five days and Li Gexiong, chairman of China Crops Society, came to congratulate him. The meeting was attended by 159 representatives of barley scientific research, education and production units from all provinces and cities (excluding Taiwan).
