The magnetoelectric domains/domain walls in intrinsic multiferroics can ex-hibit intriguing topological nanoscale textures. These thermodynamically stabilized nano-textures are compared with nanoscale polar structures in nanos-tructured composite films. In addition, we show that the consideration of broken symmetries is essential to understand the macroscopic origin of multiferroicity and also to predict new multiferroicity.
