Objective To carry out diabetes health education based on patients’ β-cell function to improve the compliance of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) insulin therapy. Methods One hundred and twelve newly diagnosed elderly patients with T2DM were randomly divided into observation group and control group. OGIRT was used to determine the β-cell function in the observation group and diabetes mellitus education according to the function of β-cell. The control group was only diabetic education. Results The compliance rate of insulin treatment in observation group was 87.50% (49 cases / 56 cases), while that in control group was 58.93% (33 cases / 56 cases), the difference was significant (P = 0.001). CONCLUSION: The results of beta-cell function reduction in insulin release test can significantly improve insulin therapy compliance in newly diagnosed elderly patients with T2DM.
