As one of the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, teaching Chinese characters has drawn much attention. However, the practical difficulties in teaching can not be underestimated. Andersen, a Danish fairy tale writer, has said so in his fairy tale collection “The Bible is written in the hardest Chinese characters in the world.” Chinese characters have long been regarded as “Everest, an insurmountable gap” in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. This article explores the difficulties in teaching Chinese characters and systematically reviews the difficulty of learning Chinese characters. In the end, some feasible solutions for teaching Chinese characters are put forward in the hope of helping the teaching bottleneck.
