总体来说是一次“左”的修订“文革”中间,中国的出版业遭到了很大的破坏,就连《新华字典》这样一本小小的工具书,也没法再出了。没有工具书,广大人民群众,尤其是中小学生和工农兵的学习受到了影响。周恩来总理了解到了这一状况,觉得这并不是一件小事情。于是,1970年秋天,周恩来总理指示,要国务院科教组组织一个班子修订再版《新华字典》。
In general, during the “Left” revision of the “Cultural Revolution”, China's publishing industry was greatly damaged. Even a small reference book such as “Xinhua Dictionary” was unable to come out. Without reference books, the learning of the broad masses of the people, especially primary and secondary school students and workers, peasants and soldiers has been affected. Premier Zhou Enlai understands this situation and feels that this is not a trivial matter. Thus, in the autumn of 1970, Premier Zhou Enlai instructed a science and education department of the State Council to organize a team to revise and reprint the “Xinhua Dictionary.”
