After the Seventy-Seven Incident, Japanese authorities increased their troops to North China to prepare for war actively. After the “Langfang incident” and the “Guang’an incident”, the Central Army of the Japanese Army authorized the Chinese Tunhu Army to freely exercise their armed forces. On the night of July 27, 1937, the Japanese troops captured the Tuanhe Palace and then surrounded the 29th Army Nanyuan barracks of the Chinese army from the south, northeast and northwest. On the morning of the 28th, following the first bombing of the Japanese air combat units, the army units launched their offensive in the southeastern, southwestern and northwestern directions of Nanyuan and attacked Nanyuan barracks in collaboration with step guns and step-by-step operations. Before the Chinese army retreated on a massive scale, the Japanese army first occupied Tianluozhuang, the main thoroughfare of Nanyuan to Peiping, ambushing and retreating the troops, causing the 29th Army to suffer heavy losses. The generals Tonglin Pavilion and Zhao Dengyu sacrificed at the same time.
