Composite materials have found wide application in small aircraft components, but have been slow to be applied to large components, especially to the main load-bearing components. The Composite Large Aircraft Wing Structure Program (CLAWS) was recently developed at the Air Force’s Materials Laboratory at Wright Aviation Research Institute under the US Air Force.
