Phosphorus is one of the necessary nutrients in water. Autotrophs, such as plankton in the ocean, absorb these nutrients into their own body tissues through the action of sunlight, while fish are mostly fed on these autotrophs. It is often contaminated by industrial wastewater or domestic sewage, regardless of the sea or land water sources. It may lead to excessive local phosphate content and deterioration of water quality, thus affecting the ecological balance in water bodies.
