汽车在行驶中,由主轴带动的发电机的转速是在很大范围内变化的,因此,其发出的电压将随转速而增减。蓄电池、点火圈、照明等用电设备,则需要较稳定的电压以保证正常工作。由于工作条件的不同,负载时增时减,为了保护发电机的过流及蓄电池的过压,以及避免蓄电池的电能倒回发电机,为此,要装设汽车发电机调节器。目前的调节器包括:断流器、节流器和节压器三个部分,它们都是电磁铁机构的自动仪器。断流器用来自动管理电机与蓄电池之间的电路,节流器是用来限制发电机输出的最大电流强度,节压器是用来调节发电机的电压,使它维持在额定数值。
